Post 7 - Design intent
Whilst using CAD modelling and 3D printers to design my prototypes, an nisght occured. Not only do people have limited access to prosthetics services but also lack access to the tools to create their own.
In my early design intent;
“Design a 3D printable low-cost attachment for a prosthetic hand, so that people with limb-loss can use a computer mouse”
I asked myself to create a device that solved a problem for someone else. The more I began to understand the enabling the future community, I realized it was about creating access, not only to affordable devices but access to the tools required to create more great devices.
The following brief began;
Facilitate access for people with hand limb-loss to the tools required to create prosthetic devices, so that they can design for themselves.
